The Boss weaved a little magic on the Canadian album charts this week.
Bruce Springsteen's 15th studio disc "Magic" checked in at No. 1 with over 25,000 in sales, according to Nielsen SoundScan data.
The album surpassed the first-week success of his last CD, 2005's "Devils & Dust," which racked up 21,000 in its debut, and marks Springsteen's second No. 1 disc in the SoundScan era.
The Boss also occupied the No. 1 spot south of the border, selling 335,000 copies of "Magic" in the U.S.
Back here, French artist Sylvain Cossette's "70s" (19,000) debuted at No. 2, James Blunt's "All the Lost Souls" dropped from No. 2 to No. 3, Reba McEntire's "Reba Duets" came up two notches to No. 4, and Kanye West's "Graduation" slipped from No. 4 to No. 5.
The Foo Fighters' "Echoes, Silence, Patience & Grace," after entering the charts last week at No. 1, sank six positions to No. 6. It was the same story for Rascal Flatts, whose album "Still Feels Good" dropped four to No. 7 in its second week of release.
Matchbox Twenty's "Exile on Mainstream" and Annie Lennox's "Songs of Mass Destruction" premiered at No. 8 and No. 9, respectively, and Blue Rodeo's "Small Miracles" hung on at No. 10.
Other notable debuts included Faith Hill's "The Hits" at No. 19, Brooks & Dunn's "Cowboy Town" at No. 23, Dashboard Confessional's "The Shade of Poison Trees" at No. 26, The Cult's "Born Into This" at No. 29, Bob Dylan's three-disc collection "Bob Dylan" at No. 36, and Keyshia Cole's "Just Like You" at No. 48.
In the U.S., Rascal Flatts falls from the top spot to second, followed by Matchbox Twenty in third, Soulja Boy's "souljaboytellem.com" in fourth, and J. Holiday's "Back of My 'Lac" in fifth.
