Stapp denies starting brawl with 311

Scott Stapp

Ex-Creed singer Scott Stapp is fighting back against reports that he started a hotel brawl with members of the punk rock group 311.

Stapp released a statement to MTV News on Wednesday to try to refute last week's claims that he started an altercation with 311 at a Baltimore hotel bar.

"This is a very unfortunate situation; however, there are two sides to every story. I was at the hotel celebrating Thanksgiving and my engagement with my new fiancee when the fight started," the statement read.

Stapp refers to a Dec. 2 Associated Press story, that lays claim to the fact that 311 did indeed start the fight.

Jonathan Jordan, director of security at the Harbor Court Hotel told the AP that the brawl "was definitely started by 311."

However, 311 released their own statement on Wednesday refuting Stapp's claims saying "We stand by our initial statement 100 per cent. With complete certainty I can tell you that Scott Stapp was acting totally belligerent, he smashed a shot glass on the bar, he got into an argument with patrons at the bar, he made a disrespectful remark to (Doug SA Martinez)'s wife, and he threw the first punch which started the fight. Scott can say whatever he wants, but that's what happened.

Stapp was a member of the successful rock group Creed for almost 10 years. They broke up in 2004.

311 released their latest album, "Don't Tread on Me" in August.
