Scott Stapp a ticking time bomb
By -- Toronto Sun

Trust a guy who used to front a Christian-themed rock band to know a thing or two about falling from grace.

Else why would Scott Stapp be facing an arraignment hearing in L.A. tomorrow?

Stapp -- who likened his departure from the platinum-selling Creed to "Sting leaving The Police" -- practically foretold his meltdown of recent weeks in November in an Associated Press interview on the heels of a stint in rehab.

Calling himself "my own worst enemy," the singer who is scheduled to play The Opera House tonight said, "Just when pressure will mount, I'll go do something stupid, just to blow off some steam and end up hurting myself. Just, like, being stupid and getting in trouble, I'll beat up somebody, get drunk and act like an idiot and get out of control."

He might have added "Don't believe me? Just watch."

His publicist's nightmare began on Halloween, when Stapp got into a brawl with the band 311 in a Baltimore bar. On their website, the band reported Stapp sat down next to singer S.A. Martinez and made a "disrespectful and crude remark" to S.A.'s wife. When the band objected, Stapp "sucker-punched" drummer Chad Sexton. "Scott was looking for a fight -- and that's what he got," the band posted.

It was still a brushfire in December, when Stapp taped an episode of Spike TV's Casino Cinema. He was by accounts belligerent and drunk, calling a female producer a (rhymes with witch) and host Beth Ostrowski (Howard Stern's girlfriend) a "bimbo."

That was, of course, just a warmup for the Wedding Weekend, in which he married a beauty queen in Florida on a Friday and was arrested in L.A. on Saturday en route to his honeymoon. On Feb. 10, with his 7-year-old son Jagger serving as best man, Stapp married former Miss New York Jaclyn Nesheiwat at the Vizcaya Museum and Gardens on Biscayne Bay.

The next day at Los Angeles International Airport, Stapp tried to board a plane to his Honolulu honeymoon, but was allegedly intoxicated and airline personnel refused to let him on. The disturbance that followed led to his arrest, at the time of which his blood alcohol level was reported as .18. The arraignment is set for tomorrow.

And then? Let's just say when your name shows up in the papers alongside Kid Rock's, it's not usually because you've both been nominated for the Nobel Prize. As Chris Rock said when he introduced Kid Rock on the American Music Awards, "Ladies and gentlemen, prepare to lower your standards!"

Shortly after the nuptials, a seven-year-old video of Stapp and Kid Rock getting serviced in Rock's motor home by strippers (Stapp was the cameraman), showed up courtesy of World Wide Red Light District, of Paris Hilton sex-tape fame. Rock got a temporary court order to stop distribution.

Stapp's reaction? "Obviously someone wants to hurt me and doesn't want me to be successful in my solo career."

'I'm like, 'What are you talking about?' " Rock told the San Francisco Examiner. "'This tape gets out -- it's your tape -- and you're (saying) someone's trying to sabotage your career?'

"He's the idiot because it's out. I hold him responsible."
