TORONTO -- Blaming an anonymous posting on the Internet, Stone Temple Pilots' manager Steve Stewart says there is no truth to the rumor that the band would be calling it quits after playing a beer company-sponsored concert here Sunday night.
"Someone posted something on the Internet, and (L.A. radio station) KROQ picked it up, then a lot of other stations picked it up, too," Stewart told Jam! just minutes after STP had wrapped up a blistering 75-minute set in front of about 900 "Blind Date" contest-winners at the local club The Guvernment.
"The rumor in the U.S. was that San Diego (last Wednesday) was the band's last show ever, and now they've just played here, so what does that tell you?"
The Pilots' long-term plans, however, remain decidedly vague. Stewart says that frontman Scott Weiland will put out a solo album that should surface in "the latter part of this year, or the early part of next year."
The other three band members -- guitarist Dean DeLeo, bassist Robert DeLeo, and drummer Eric Kretz -- will resume working with singer Dave Coutts, with whom they recorded some as-yet-unreleased material under the moniker Vitamin last year while Weiland was battling his heroin addiction. Stewart says the album they're working on will likely be released in September but might come out under a different name.
If both acts tour behind their respective projects, that means the EARLIEST that STP would reconvene in earnest would be next spring.
As for rumors that the Pilots' had already cut half a dozen demos for the next album, Stewart says he hasn't heard anything but that the band "always has new material in their heads."
The only Pilots' project we might see in the interim is a revised version of the long-form video they made on tour two years ago. "They didn't like the way it was shot and cut, and it's kind of outdated now," Stewart says, adding that it could possibly be inter-cut with more recent footage and released at some unspecified date.
Stewart says that he "will be involved with Scott, but probably not the other three guys."

NOTE: 1) The band dropped their usual four-song "unplugged" set, which would've included their hit "Creep" along with their cover of Led Zeppelin's "Dancing Days". 2) Sunday night's show in Toronto was actually a make-up date for a Blind Date that STP was scheduled to play last Dec. 29 in Vancouver. That event was cancelled after a snowstorm on the West Coast, shortly after which Weiland disappeared for a few days.
