STP singer Weiland busted for DUI
By JAM! Music

Stone Temple Pilots frontman Scott Weiland was arrested Monday for driving under the influence, one week after a Los Angeles judge said the rocker could avoid jail if he stayed clean.

Rolling Stone reports Weiland was arrested early Monday morning, on his 36th birthday, after he lost control of his car and smashed into a parked car in Hollywood.

Los Angeles police caught the rocker as he was attempting to flee the scene and charged him with driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs and a misdemeanor hit-and-run.

According to a police spokesperson, Weiland was released from jail Monday afternoon on $15,000 bail. He is scheduled to be arraigned in L.A. Municipal Court on Nov. 17.

Last week, Judge Colette Serio praised Weiland for completing most of the required drug testing and counselling resulting from his no contest plea to two felony drug possession charges in August. Weiland was warned that if subsequent tests found drugs in his system, he would have to resume residential treatment.

The troubled musician was arrested in May when police in the Los Angeles suburb of Burbank pulled over a car he was riding in and Weiland tested positive for drugs.

Outside of court last week, Weiland said the counselling was helping him deal with a heroin and cocaine addiction that dates back to 1995.

"Getting busted spurred my desire to seriously get back into recovery," said Weiland on Oct. 20.

Weiland had been scheduled to give Serio an update on his progress in January. A clerk in the judge's courtroom said this latest arrest would probably force the judge to schedule an earlier court date.

Weiland has been working on the debut album from his side project Velvet Revolver with Suicidal Tendencies' David Kushner and Guns 'N Roses members Slash, Duff McKagan and Matt Sorum. The album is scheduled for release in February.
