WINNIPEG -- Brandon country music sensation Amanda Stott says there's one song on her self-titled album that could have been written for the Grey Cup-hungry Winnipeg Blue Bombers.
"It's called Reachin' For A Star," the 18-year-old Bomber backer said. "It's about going for your dreams and not giving up and doing what you always wanted to do. That's a great song for the Bombers. They're going for their dream."
Stott, who played the Walker Theatre last night, said she was thrilled when she found out the Bombers advanced to the Eastern Final following Sunday's dramatic 22-20 victory over the defending Grey Cup champion Hamilton Tiger-Cats.
"Murray, my guitar player, is a huge Winnipeg Blue Bomb-er fan so he was giving me the scoop," she said. "He's so pumped. When he was watching it he said his stomach was on a roller-coaster."
Stott says no one should ever underestimate this province's CFL team.
"We Manitobans just got it in us, so you knew they were going to pull through," she said. "They had it in them all the time."
It was only four months ago that Stott performed at the Blue Bomber Kickoff Party at the corner of Portage and Main in front of more than 50,000 Blue and Gold faithful.
"That was definitely a highlight of my career and seeing the city pull together and support them," she said. "It was a great idea -- a great way to start the season."
Currently on tour, Stott will be in North Bay, Ont., this Sunday when the Bombers tackle the Alouettes in Montreal.
"I'll be cheering for the Bombers and rooting for them during the game for sure," she said, adding hometown pride goes a long way. "It's the exact same in the music business. You need that support to know everybody's rooting for you back home."
Stott boldly predicted another Winnipeg victory next week.
"What can I say? They're going to win," she said, adding the play of quarterback Khari Jones will be pivotal. "If he has a good day, it's going to be fine."
