LATEST GREATEST STRAITEST HIT
George Strait
(MCA)
I think once you have more greatest-hits albums than most other recording artists have albums, it's maybe time to slow down a bit.
Such is the case with George Strait, who while undeniably remaining uninfected by some of the previously mentioned lameness in this space, still seems to be weakening slightly as time marches on.
Strait is no rock 'n' roll cowboy. He's stuck to tradition while having a new face (relatively - he was signed by the majors 20 years ago now). Then again, the Texas singer still manages to pack a punch in tunes like Best Day or the Alan Jackson duet, Murder on Music Row.
If you don't already have the box set, his Christmas work or any of the other hundreds of records he's put out, Latest Greatest is worth it for the catchy Adalia alone.
But seeing as he never much strays from the path that's made him a very heavily sponsored country singer, you may as well start anywhere.
Preferably one of his older best-ofs.
