GREATEST HITS
By DAVE VEITCH
GREATEST HITS Sublime Sublime were emerging as one of the pre-eminent American punk-ska bands of the 1990s when a heroin overdose claimed the life of singer-songwriter Brad Nowell in 1996. Suddenly, the career of this Long Beach, Calif., combo was cut short, which may explain why its greatest hits disc also ends prematurely -- after 10 tracks with less than 30 minutes of playing time (although the disc does include two videos). As for the tunes, Sublime's punky ska style was strictly workmanlike and its lyrics, mainly about chicks and weed, helped secure a loyal frat-boy following. Sugar Ray was likely listening, too -- their hits Fly and Every Morning are close cousins to Sublime's What I Got. Track Listing
