Sum 41 want the polar put back in polar bear.
The Ajax, Ont., hitmakers this week moved to have six polar bears released from Puerto Rico, where they're being kept in sweltering conditions by the Suarez Bros. Circus.
Acting on behalf of People For The Ethical Treatment Of Animals (PETA), Sum 41 sent a letter to Manitoba's Minister Of Conservation, Oscar Lathlin, asking that he oversee the bears' rescue. Three of them were captured in Manitoba.
PETA reports that the bears are kept in cages in temperatures up to 45oC and whipped into performing tricks.
Germany's ministry for the environment has previously demanded the circus release two polar bears that had previously lived in Germany. U.S. agents confiscated another polar bear in March after PETA discovered that Mexico's Suarez Bros. had supplied fraudulent documentation of her identity. That bear now resides in the Baltimore Zoo.
