MAN-MADE
Man-made well madeBy ALLAN WIGNEY -- Ottawa Sun
Teenage Fanclub Man-Made (Sony/BMG) If only all British bands could be as unpretentious as Teenage Fanclub, a Glaswegian ensemble so determinedly and unashamedly bent on creating simple, neo-bubblegum pop music, even recording in Chicago with members of Tortoise could not lead them to the dark side. This, after all, is a band that has never wanted anything more out of a career than to make the pop record that can comfortably rest on your shelf between Badfinger's Straight Up and Big Star's #1 Record. Melodies that leave you humming, harmonies to die for and arrangements that veer from psychedelia (Born Under a Good Sign) to something out of The Cowsills' catalogue (Fallen Leaves). Lyrics? Yes, there are lyrics. But they won't get in the way of your enjoying this CD. That, after all, is the way the pop-music gods meant for it to be. Track Listing:
