Teitur is a 26-year-old singer-songwriter from the Faroe Islands, a small group of Denmark-owned islands between Iceland and Scotland with a population of 45,000. It probably seemed a bit strange then last year when the musician performed with John Mayer in hockey arenas that could contain almost half of his homeland.
"It was kind of funny," he says of the arena tour while packing for a series of shows supporting Rufus Wainwright, which begin tonight at the Phoenix Concert Theatre. "You can only see those very close to you and the rest is dark. The sound was also really great on stage because it sounded enormous. I thought I would be s---ing myself, but it was really easy."
