Thievery Corporation is a band of dream collaborators and remix artists, capable of designing gorgeous sonic architecture behind the right vocalists or melodies. But what happens when that architecture is left bare?
The stylish Washington, D.C., duo's previous works have contained an immediate electro punch, and they do splice trendy sounds together to pleasing effect on the rippling Illumination, Samba Tranquille and Air Batucada, which cross-pollinate Indian and Brazilian music with chilled-out electro-lounge.
But The Mirror Conspiracy's collection of blooping backdrops and sifting polyrhythms aren't enough to sustain themselves over the course of a focused listen. Best do something else at the same time.
