If a great band is more than the sum of its parts, the E-Street Band must be a pretty big sum - like one of those humongous, eye-popping, jaw-dropping figures that appear on your natural gas bill, musically speaking.
Think of the great backing bands in rock 'n' roll - the Attractions, Crazy Horse, the Heartbreakers, the All Starrs, Wings, the Pips. Few hold a candle to Bruce Springsteen's 10-piece outfit of heartland rock heavyweights, re-formed three years ago and going strong on a world tour to support Springsteen's latest album, The Rising.
