Usher crooned his way to the top of the Canadian album charts this week.
His latest album, "Here I Stand," debuted at No. 1 with sales of just under 16,000 copies, according to figures compiled by Nielsen SoundScan.
It marks the third consecutive release from the R&B superstar to enter the charts at the top spot -- "Confessions" hit No. 1 in March of 2004, selling 23,000, and "8701" accomplished the feat in August of 2001, selling 16,700 copies.
Usher also snagged first prize south of the border, selling 433,000 copies of "Here I Stand" in the U.S., making it the second biggest debut of the year behind Mariah Carey's "E=MC2" (463,000).
Back here, Madonna's "Hard Candy" (7,000) was locked in at No. 2, while two more debuts came in near the top of the charts, with the "Sex and the City" soundtrack" (6,000) at No. 3, and Renee Martel's "L'Heritage" at No. 4.
Duffy's "Rockferry" slipped another spot to No. 5, The Lost Fingers' "Lost in the 80's" came up one to No. 6, and Sam Roberts' "Love at the End of the World" sank from No. 1 last week, all the way down to No. 7.
Rounding out the top 10 was Leona Lewis' "Spirit" at No. 8, 3 Doors Down's self-titled album at No. 9, and Death Cab For Cutie's "Narrow Stairs" at No. 10.
Other notable first week entries included the compilation "Just the Hits 2008" at No. 13, Al Green's "Lay It Down" at No. 38, and Cyndi Lauper's "Bring Ya To the Brink" at No. 40.
In the U.S., "Sex and the City" came in second, followed by 3 Doors Down in third, rapper Bun B's "II Trill" in fourth, and Leona Lewis in fifth.
