"So far, so good," sings David Usher. Well, maybe from his perspective. From where we sit, the singer's been coasting downhill ever since he quit fronting CanRockers Moist.

And his latest solo set Strange Birds -- in stores Tuesday -- doesn't change that trajectory.

These 11 wimpy tracks just offer more of what we've come to associate with Usher -- the pop-rock beats, the quiet verses, the big anthemic choruses, the chiming Edge-like guitars, the whispery vocals and falsetto swoops, the brooding-poet lyrics about love and life and death, the sleek production treatment, yadda yadda yadda.

We will grant you it's more consistent than Morning Orbit. And poppier than Hallucinations. So maybe Usher is starting to get over himself just a little.

Trouble is, it seems most folks are already over him.
