Canadian pop-punk princess Avril Lavigne was shot down by a group of rock 'n roll bad boys on the Canadian album charts this week.
Velvet Revolver -- featuring Scott Weiland (formerly of Stone Temple Pilots), Slash, Duff McKagan and Matt Sorum (all formerly of Guns n' Roses) and David Kushner (Wasted Youth) -- blasted straight to No. 1 with their debut disc "Contraband," selling 22,200 copies in its first week, according to Nielsen SoundScan Canada.
The album narrowly outsold Avril Lavigne's "Under My Skin," which rung up 21,200 in sales, good enough for a second place finish.
Velvet Revolver also grabbed the No. 1 spot south of the border, selling an impressive 256,000 copies of ""Contraband" in the U.S., according to figures from Billboard.com.
Elsewhere in the Canadian top 10, Usher's "Confessions" (7,500) remained well behind in third, Diana Krall's "The Girl in the Other Room" dropped from second to fourth, and Guns N' Roses' "Greatest Hits" climbed from seventh to fifth.
Canadian rockers Alexisonfire had the second-highest debut of the week at No. 6 with their second CD "Watch Out," the Black Eyed Peas' "Elephunk" moved up one to No. 7, and D12's "D12 World" sank three to No. 8.
Hoobastank's "The Reason" moved into the top 10 at No. 9, and George Michael's "Patience" slipped four spots to No. 10.
The only other notable debut went to PJ Harvey's "Uh Huh Her," which checked in at No. 26.
In the U.S., Usher claimed the No. 2 spot, followed by Avril Lavigne in third, Gretchen Wilson's "Here for the Party" in fourth, and Prince's "Musicology" in fifth.
