British indie-rockers White Lies were in about as remote a place in the world as you could be when they found out in mid-January that their debut CD, To Lose My Life, had debuted at No. 1 in the U.K. album chart.
"Surprising as it is, we were actually in the Arctic Circle of Russia, recording the latest music video for Farewell to the Fairground," White Lies bassist-lyricist Charles Cave told Sun Media. "And I mean we were really, really in the middle of absolute nowhere -- just surrounded by ice and iced-over lakes and snow, and that was it.
"And it was kind of surreal to be honest, to even be there, let alone to get a call saying that we'd got to No. 1. And the only thing there is to do in a place like that is drink vodka, really, and so that's what we did for a little bit and had a nice celebration."
