Wilco presses on with tour, streams out new album
By PAUL CANTIN
Alt.country favorites Wilco have decided to push ahead with their upcoming tour despite the recent attacks in the U.S., and have also begun streaming out their as-yet-unreleased "Yankee Hotel Foxtrot" album in its entirety.

In an e-mail message sent out to fans, band manager Tony Margherita said that after a "harrowing week," the band held a meeting Tuesday and agreed to go ahead with their tour of eastern North America.

"We have a lot of reservations at this point, about leaving our homes, friends, and families but all agreed that somehow making music feels like the right thing ... despite the circumstances," Margherita said.

Wilco recently parted company with Reprise Records, after the company refused to release the group's next album, "Yankee Hotel Foxtrot." The band has since been looking for a new home on which to release the disc.

"We've made some progress in narrowing the list of potential labels (to sign with) and hope that we'll have some news for you re: all of this in a few weeks," Margherita said.

Meanwhile, Wilco's official website, www.wilcoworld.net, has begun streaming the album in its entirety.

"We hope you'll find it comforting or reassuring or something," Margherita said in his e-mail.

The site will also stream the group's Tuesday night appearance on Chicago radio station WXRT's "Sound Opinions" program.

"I was in Manhattan last week and only managed to get back to Chicago yesterday," Margherita said.

"I'm not sure what to say except that I saw so many unforgettable and unbelievable things ... and amongst the horror and tragedy in the city I saw many acts of true beauty."

The site also encouraged fans to donate to the Red Cross at: www.redcross.org/donate/donate.html

Wilco's tour kicks off Sept. 21 in Dallas and ends Oct. 6 in St. Louis. The only Canadian date is Oct. 4 at Toronto's Phoenix Theatre. (More on Wilco)
