The same link will take you to the live chat on April 8, too.
Tweedy should have plenty to talk about. "Yankee Hotel Foxtrot" was completed and ready for release about a year ago, but the band's unorthodox new direction led to disagreements with their label, Reprise Records.
The stand-off over the album's fate was resolved with Wilco obtaining both the rights to the record and a release from their contract with Reprise. The making of the album also saw the group undergo lineup changes. The record is now scheduled to be released April 23 via Nonesuch Records.
The experience of making "Yankee Hotel Foxtrot" has been documented by filmmaker Sam Jones. The results, entitled "I Am Trying To Break Your Heart," is due for theatrical release this summer. Jones has documented the making of his own documentary at www.wilcofilm.com.
Wilco originally arose from the ashes of the pioneering alt-country band Uncle Tupelo and released three critically acclaimed albums via Reprise -- "A.M.," "Being There" and "Summerteeth." As well, Wilco collaborated with British singer-songwriter Billy Bragg on two "Mermaid Avenue" albums of songs based on lyrics stored in folksinger Woody Guthrie's archive.
Aside from "Yankee Hotel Foxtrot," Wilco fans are anticipating Tweedy's soundtrack to the Ethan Hawke-directed film "Chelsea Walls" (also due April 23 from Rykodisc) and a side-project Tweedy recorded more than a year ago with musician Jim O'Rourke and Wilco drummer Glenn Kotche.
Wilco is scheduled to play April 21 at Toronto's Convocation Hall and April 22 at Montreal's Le Spectrum. According to the band's website (www.wilcoweb.com), the group will appear on "Late Night With David Letterman" on April 30.
The website is also streaming a 70-minute recording of the band's Dec. 6 performance at Los Angeles's El Ray Theatre.
