Strawberries sweet sound

Not even a short but heavy rain shower could keep away the dancing horde that descended upon the Coca-Cola Stage last night.

 

 And why should a bit of rain keep anyone from seeing Wild Strawberries?

 

 Although the crowd dwindled as the rain fell, about 750 people stuck around to see the 90-minute set.

 

 Stylish singer Roberta Carter Harrison begged the crowd to brave the dark clouds, but she needn't have tried so hard.

 

 True, several people did rush for drier ground, but that just left more room for the rest, who boogied down to the Strawberries' groove-laden pop.

 

 Clad in a spaghetti-stringed purple top, black pants and some super-funky black clunkers, Harrison joked around with the audience between songs.

 

 Her husband Ken Harrison's vintage Moog and Hammond sampler setup made it look as if he was at the helm of some 1950s computer prototype.

 

 But it was the Hammond sampler that gave off the fat organ sound which got the crowd's feet moving, and nicely backed up his wife's gorgeous voice.

 

 Last night's show gave a taste of what fans can expect when the band plays Lilith Fair Aug. 28.
