Concert Review: The Wilkinsons

Silver Dollar Casino, Calgary - July 10, 2002
Family's here to stay
By ANIKA VAN WYK -- Calgary Sun

CALGARY -- The family that plays together stays together and apparently have a lot of fun doing it.

The father-daughter-son trio The Wilkinsons put on a solid, high-energy, all-ages show at Frank Sisson's Silver Dollar Casino last night.

Steve, Amanda and Tyler recently split from their record label because the "experts" wanted Amanda to hog the limelight and leave her dad and brother in the shadows.

While the young woman does have the "it" quality that makes a superstar -- not to mention a big, from-the-heart voice -- this family works great as a group.

They, of course, interact naturally, their harmonies are bang on and it's obvious that each one enjoys the comfort of having the others share the stage.

At last night's show, Amanda did spend most of the time at centre stage, but she always made sure to include her father and brother in each song.

The Canadian trio mixed their radio hits such as Fly with some new material. Canadians have not seen a new album from The Wilkinsons for a couple of years due to the above-mentioned turmoil.

Amanda particularly shined during the sweet love song I Know What I'm Doing, which was written by her father Steve.

Tyler, who's returned to his natural dark hair, took he spotlight for I Gotta Get Out of Here. (More on The Wilkinsons)
