Album Review: Wu-Tang Clan

IRON FLAG
By MIKE BELL

IRON FLAG
Wu-Tang Clan
(Sony/Columbia)

Wu-Tang: The name still means quality.

Despite one horrendous release (Wu-Tang Forever) and some forgettable solo albums from its members, Wu-Tang Clan is still a name synonymous with groundbreaking ghetto hip hop.

The 13-track Iron Flag is an extremely well-realized album, without any waste and with very little padding.

Most of the credit must go to RZA's production and pacing, which has never been slicker or tighter. He takes full advantage of the individual members' strengths by framing their raps and rhymes with samples and sounds that are as in-your-face or laid-back as warranted.

From the exceptional Chrome Wheels, to the hit-worthy funk soul review One of These Days, Iron Flag is full of all the good stuff you've come to expect from The Wu, with none of the bad. (More on Wu-Tang Clan)
