Neil Young unlikely to be at fest
By Toronto Sun
TORONTO - Luminato officials and one breathless Toronto newspaper alike were reporting yesterday that Neil Young has been invited to attend the June celebration of his famous 1971 concert at Massey Hall. One little problem -- which a 20-second website search reveals. The legendary Canadian singer-songwriter not only will be touring Europe all through June, he's scheduled to perform in Germany the day before the June 10 Luminato event -- and in Oslo, Norway, the day after. Think maybe he'll cross the Atlantic Ocean and back in a 24-hour period to participate in an 'all-star' revisiting of his 38-year-old concert? Uh, no. No word yet, either, as to whether surviving Led Zeppelin or Beatles members will join the tribute bands performing this spring at Casino Rama. The Canadian Songbook: A Tribute to Neil Young At Massey Hall will see such all-stars as Holly Cole, Jason Collette, Cowboy Junkies, Colin Linden, Steven Page, Carol Pope, Sarah Slean and musical director Kevin Breit, among others, singing all of Young's 18 songs from his seminal 1971 show. Luminato artistic director Chris Lorway said the "the tricky part" now is figuring out which artists will sing which song. The trickiest part? Neil Young himself performing one of them.
