Album Review: Rob Zombie

SINISTER URGE
By DARRYL STERDAN

SINISTER URGE
Rob Zombie
(Geffen / Universal)

Every horror movie needs a sequel. So, like the terrifying, unkillable creature who rises again and again, Rob Zombie returns to wreak more havoc in this followup to 1998's Hellbilly Deluxe. The 11-song Sinister Urge is packed with the same corpse-grinding, coffin-crunching shock 'n' shlock rock that dread-head Zombie has been peddling to good effect for a decade. The formula is simple: Take a slamming industro-metal riff, add some B-movie samples, toss in some lyrics about hot-rodding ghouls, gore-gore girls and Transylvania trysts and savour. Sure it's predictable as hell; so were the Scream movies, but that's part of the fun, isn't it? (More on: Rob Zombie).
