Chixdiggit started, fictitiously, as a practical joke in 1990 when Jansen. and a buddy began selling large quantities of T-shirts for a band that didn't exist. With the money they bought instruments and, with no musical experience whatsoever, played their first show in Calgary in 1991..
After toiling the prairie leagues for several years, they managed to attract the attention of Sub Pop who released the band's eponymous debut album in 1995 to good reviews throughout North America. They began a non-stop tour by van across North America highlighted by an opening slot for Les McKeown's 1970's Bay City Rollers in 1996
The band remained out of the spotlight while it tried to unravel the legal snafus with its former label Sub Pop out of Seattle in 1997 sighting the label's lack of promotion. With that resolved they signed to another, smaller US label, Honest Don's and released their follow-up disc 'Born On The First Of July' in early 1998.
