Urban-primitive torch swinging rockabilly from Montreal-based band fronted by writers Julia Gilmore and Eddy Strawiak (who left after Mumbo Jumbo). The music is stripped down post»wave pop, angular, terse and tough with jazz, swing and country influences powered by Gilmore's vocals and Strawiak's quirky sax playing. They tackle the unexpected...Cole Porter's "Night And Day" and Lil Green's "Knockin' Myself Out" with the emphasis on the sparse music, unusual vocals and odd lyrical content. Mumbo Jumbo went to No. 1 on CBC's "Brave New Waves" selling over 2000 copies.
