The Cycle evolved out of mid-60s act The Magic Cycle who had run their course following the failure of the single "Groovy Things" on the indie Fingerprints label to chart after its release in October of 1969. After shortening the name they were signed to Tamarac Records in 1970 where RPM Magazine co-editor (and former Red Leaf Records owner) Stan Klees produced their self-titled debut.
When Dinardo left to joing Abraham's Children, Don Paveling was brought in. The band would continue with many line-up changes including the addition of Agnello during live dates as a utility player. Clinch, Paveling, Dinardo and Agnello were also the line-up on all the Gary & Dave sessions as well.
The band released a second album in 1973 called 'Magic Music'. The title track charted nationally reaching No.89. The group split up in 1974, but many of the members would re-convene in 1976 under the name Choya.
