REESE

Artist: Good, Matthew

Born: June 29, 1971 in Burnaby, BC

Matthew Good got his musical education doing the folk-rock scene from coast to coast before succumbing to stress in 1995 while backstage at the Sidetrack Cafe. Being an acoustic guitar-strumming folkie finally took its toll in Edmonton, so he fired his band, threw out nearly three hours of original music and wiped the slate clean for his new career as a rock musician.

The Matthew Good band was born and beat around the usual Toronto music scene haunts and following the release of their first independent CD 'Last Of The Ghetto Astronauts' in 1995, struck up a music publishing deal with EMI Music in 1996.

While trying to decide where to go with their songs and their careers, they released an indie EP in 1997 and after spending $100,000 of personal money to record their second album, 'Underdogs', immediately attracted the attention of A & M Records who signed the act and released the disc as well as re-issuing the band's back catalogue in 1997.

The 'Underdogs' album went Platinum in sales, spawned several hit singles and videos and gained the act three Juno nominations.

September 1999 marked the release of the follow-up disc 'Beautiful Midnight' and its single "Hello Time Bomb". The former debuted in the No. 1 spot on SoundScan Canada's album charts for the week of Sept. 12, selling close to 25,000 copies.
