Soloist Dakota hooked up with former Absolute Whores' McConnell in 1989 and began the Lost Dakotas as a duo busking at the corners of Yonge and Dundas Streets in Toronto. In the winter they would move underground to the Toronto Transit Subway system.
During the recording of their independent cassette 'Love To Play' they recruited guitarist Adam Faux in 1990. In 1991 they released the independent album 'Last Train To Kipling'.
In 1992 Faux left to form Toronto band Pig Farm and was replaced by transplanted Nova Scotian Rick O'Brien.
Their image and visuals were designed by Toronto journalist Erella Ganon and this look translated to stage look, posters and album work.
The band recorded another full-length disc 'Sun Machine' in 1993.
Faux is currently the soundman at C'est What in Toronto and still plays in his newest band Garage Baby featuring Claude Kent (The Fits, Gravelberrys, Clockwise).
