Born: 1969
Daughter of mixed race parents, Lougheed was a dance major at The Etobicoke High School Of Arts before landing a summer job as a singer dancer for three shows five days a week at Canada's Wonderland variety show. She joined an R & B act who specialized in Sly & The Family Stone covers and performed on telethons.
With proper management she landed a vocal job doing voice work on the TV show 'Vid Kids'. She finally came to prominence at age 17 as the theme song voice for the CBC cartoon 'The Racoons'. With other songs written for the show, Lougheed released a full-length album independently in 1988. The record landed her a coveted Juno nomination for 'Most Promising Female Vocalist'.
Her major label debut, 'World Love', was a four single, hit dance record recorded in Toronto. By the end of 1992 Lougheed had been nominated for two Juno Awards - 'Best Dance Recording' ("World Love", "Love Vibe") and a 1992 Canadian Music Video Award ("Love Vibe").
For her second album, 'Peace And Harmony', she recorded with producers Jellybean Benetiz and Mike 'The Hitman' Wilson in New York and Chicago. Benetiz had been saving the song "Won't Give Up My Music" for singer Zelma Davis of C + C Music Factory but offered it to Lougheed on the condition it be released before Davis was free to do her own version of it.
The song was recorded and distributed on promotional 12" singles at the Miami Music Conference where noted British DJ Tony Humphries went back to the UK and the dance clubs with it. At the same time, Billboard dance music editor Larry Flick wrote a glowing review of the track. The finished album wowed the critics and dance floors once again.
