After playing in the rock band Lasting Weep, Yves Leonard, Denis Lapierre, [Alain Bergeron, Vincent Langlois and Jerome Langlois formed the jazz-rock fusion group Maneige in 1972 with the addition of Gilles Schetagne.
They built a following in Montreal and eventually moved into English language markets in Ontario and the prairies. By 1975 they were signed to Capitol Records and released two albums that year - Maneige' and Les Porches de Notre-Dame'.
Their sound began as symphonic but by Libre Service' (1978) the fusion elements of their sound were stronger, and by Images' (1983) their percussive feel had become jazz-rock. Most of their albums are 100% instrumental with some vocal interludes on Les Porches'.
