Go Frat Boys. That’s the word from Monica Cayce and Joseph Meadows, a.k.a. Team MoJo. The couple were eliminated last week on The Amazing Race.
Tonight, after 60,000 miles and dozens of countries, three teams are left as the ninth edition of the series heads for the finish line (8 p.m., CTV and CBS).
“We’re rooting for Eric and Jeremy,” Meadows told the Sun yesterday from their home in Arkansas. They feel frisky Frat Boys Eric Sanchez and Jeremy Ryan deserve to win after leading most of the race.
They dismissed Yolanda Brown-Moore and Ray Whitty as also rans. “They’ve been in the back of the pack the whole race,” said Meadows.
Unlike a lot of viewers, they have no love for the fun loving The Hippies — BJ Averell and Tyler Macniven — who are still hanging in despite finishing last twice. in non-elimination legs.
“Twice? C’mon,” said Meadows.
The actual race took place last December and both Cayce and Meadows say it was the thrill of a lifetime.
Skydiving over the Australian Outback was “unbelievable,” said Cayce.
Both said the competition is way harder than it seems on TV. “The sleep deprivation is what people don’t see,” said Meadows. “You’re getting four hours sleep at a 12-hour pit stop.”
If the jet lag doesn’t get you, the bad bedding will, said Cayce. “You wind up sleeping on park benches or where ever.”
Coming fourth is a bummer, especially since they didn’t win even one leg of the race, missing out on trips or other prizes. They did snag a fee all teams are paid for taking part.
As for all the nicknames that stuck this Race (The Nerds, The Frat Boys, The Hippies...), Cayce said they just came naturally. “It is all based on looks,” she said. “We got Ken and Barbie at first. Luckily we brought our own.”
