Cdn. 'Deal' draws 2.7M viewers
By -- Sun Media

A huge chunk of Global's massive Super Bowl audience stuck around to watch Deal Or No Deal Canada on Sunday night.

The Indianapolis Colts and Chicago Bears matchup attracted 3.4 million Canadian viewers. And 2.7 million of them stayed with Global for the debut of Deal Or No Deal Canada, which occurred immediately after the conclusion of the rain-soaked football game.

Five episodes of the Canadian spinoff of the popular U.S.-based game show -- that airs on NBC -- were filmed in Toronto last month.

The four remaining episodes will air on Global the next four Thursdays.

In the first episode, Brian Traynor, a firefighter from Medicine Hat, Alta., took home $109,000 for less than an hour of work.

A second contestant, RCMP officer Theresa Duranciang from Portage La Prairie, Man., began her game at the end of the episode and will carry over to episode No. 2.

About 120,000 Canadians applied to get a chance to win a million bucks on Deal Or No Deal Canada, hosted by Toronto's Howie Mandel.

Global said in a release yesterday that the premiere was the highest-rated Canadian program of all time on the network.
