Da Vinci revived for TV movie
By -- Sun Media

The quality of Dominic Da Vinci's life has been extended.

At least for a few hours.

A made-for-TV movie based on the Da Vinci character that has been "in the can" for quite a while finally has received an air date on CBC. The Quality of Life will be broadcast on Saturday, June 14.

Da Vinci, played by Nicholas Campbell, was the lead character on two CBC series, the long-running Da Vinci's Inquest and the short-lived Da Vinci's City Hall.

The franchise was created by Vancouver's Chris Haddock, whose latest series, Intelligence, recently was dropped by CBC after two seasons. Haddock now is endeavouring to take a version of Intelligence to Fox in the United States.

As for The Quality of Life, Haddock lamented in an interview with Sun Media late last year that "they (the CBC) don't like what it's about," and suggested that was the reason for the delay on an air date.

CBC executive director of network programming Kirstine Layfield strongly denied Haddock's claim, saying at the time, "it has to do with budget." Nonetheless, a Saturday air date doesn't exactly make it a marquee event.

In any event, The Quality of Life sees Campbell returning as Vancouver mayor Da Vinci, whose hosting duties at a big-city mayors' conference get interrupted by a murder investigation and possible cover-up. Some of the mayors are key witnesses, and maybe even suspects, when a domestic servant is found dead following a live sex show organized by a media magnate and his wife.

The Quality of Life also stars Mary Walsh (This Hour Has 22 minutes), Hugh Dillon (Durham County) and Michael Murphy (Away From Her).
