 The Duggar family.

HOLLYWOOD — Think you’re up on the latest celeb shenanigans?
Think again.
Then again. And again.
Thanks to the fast-forward, Twitter-fuelled universe in which we currently reside, the next big thing can go from hot to not in a matter of nanoseconds.
But you say you can name each of Jon & Kate’s Plus 8?
To quote the Black Eyed Peas, “you so 2000 and late”.
Don’t worry, because thanks to the proliferation of search engines and real-time trend monitoring services such as Bing, Google Trends and OneRiot, it’s easy to get back up to speed.
A simple click of the mouse would have told you the Gosselins have been replaced (at least this past week, anyway) by the Duggars as reality TV’s most intriguing mega-family.
It seems the stars of 18 Kids and Counting (formerly 17 Kids and Counting) have stolen the Gosselins’ thunder by confirming they’ll be welcoming the first Duggar grandchild into the fold this fall — a daughter for 21-year-old Josh and his wife.
That revelation, made Monday to Today host Meredith Vieira, ignited a search frenzy that landed the Duggar clan high atop Google’s Hot Trends list.
Likewise, if you happened to have Googled the name Farrell during the past week, we’re assuming you weren’t referring to Will — he’s so land of the lost — but rather Tami, a.k.a. Miss Malibu, the Miss California runner-up who was awarded outspoken Carrie Prejean’s crown after the latter was given the boot by Donald Trump.
She, too, has set those search engines a-humming.
Among other names that have been topping the hit lists:
Speidi, as in Spencer and Heidi Pratt, the short-lived I’m A Celebrity ... Get Me Out Of Here! contestants who received quite the grilling by Today’s Al Roker at the beginning of the week.
Usher, who’s divorcing his wife of almost two whole years, Tameka Foster-Raymond, even though she almost died back in February in a Sao Paulo hospital prior to undergoing cosmetic surgery.
Chastity Bono, Cher’s longtime out-of-the-closet 40-year-old daughter, who announced that she’ll be having a sex change operation, embracing her inner Chaz.
And it’s not just celebs who are generating all the hotness.
So is Back from the Dead — the first new Spinal Tap album since 1992’s Break Like the Wind — which hits stores on Tuesday and features fresh interpretations of many of the bands classics, with assist from the likes of John Mayer and Keith Emerson.
And an explicit new Calvin Klein billboard in New York that’s pushing the boundaries of good taste even more than previous Calvin Klein ads.
Then there’s that underwater hotel that’s scheduled to open in Dubai later this month, serving up 220 suites 60-feet below sea level.
Or the going word of the week — lethologica — a common psychological condition blamed for temporarily forgetting key words or names in the course of conversation.
So, before going out on that special date or attending that boring dinner party, you might want to first check in with Google’s Hot Trends or OneRiot so you can dazzle them with your up-to-the-minuteness.
Then again, by the time you read this ...
