TORONTO - A sexually-charged film with a provocative title is up for a leading eight Canadian Comedy Awards.

"Young People F**king," about the bedroom adventures of five couples, was recognized in acting, writing and directing categories Monday as the nominations for the 10th annual show were announced online.

The film's stars - Josh Dean, Ennis Esmer, Peter Oldring, Kristin Booth, Natalie Lisinska and Carly Pope - all received nominations for their roles.

Martin Gero was nominated for directing the romantic comedy and shares a second nomination for writing the screenplay with Aaron Abrams.

Ottawa native Jeremy Hotz, who wrote for "The Jon Stewart Show" in the 1990s, has three nominations.

He's up for best male standup and has two nods in the category of best taped, live TV performance: One for his "Just for Laughs Gala" and another for "What a Miserable Show This Is."

Other best male standup nominees include Scott Faulconbridge, Glen Foster, David Pryde and Sugar Sammy.

Debra DiGiovanni of Toronto has two nominations - one for best taped, live TV performance for her "Halifax Comedy Festival" special and another for best female standup.

Also nominated for best female standup is Kate Davis, Shelley Marshall, Allyson Smith and Kristeen Von Hagen.

The Canadian Comedy Awards were founded in 1999 as a non-profit organization to recognize homegrown achievements in comedy at home and abroad.

This year's awards show, presented by The Comedy Network, is set for Oct. 2 at the Imperial Theatre in Saint John, N.B. The show will be taped for a broadcast at a later date.
