Gotta love this title: The Simpsons 20th Anniversary Special in 3-D on Ice.
Of course, the landmark special for the legendary animated series will be neither in 3-D nor on ice. But that's The Simpsons for you.
Academy Award-nominated filmmaker Morgan Spurlock (Super Size Me, 30 Days) will produce and direct The Simpsons 20th Anniversary Special in 3-D on Ice. It is scheduled to air Thursday, Jan. 14 on Fox (Global has the Canadian rights and likely will air the special in simulcast, scheduling conflicts notwithstanding).
Spurlock will examine the cultural phenomenon that is The Simpsons, focusing on how the world sees the series and also how the Simpson family has seen the world over the past two decades.
"When they first called me about this, I thought it was a prank and I hung up," Spurlock said in a statement. "And then my agent called back and said, 'No, no, this is for real,' at which point I fainted. Then when I woke up and called everyone I knew because it was the coolest thing I could ever get to do in my career."
