The intriguing Michael J. Fox is the only guest tonight as The Hour with George Stroumboulopoulos returns for its new season on CBC.
"It's been a few years coming, we've been trying to get Michael on the show for a while," Stroumboulopoulos said. "So I'm happy it has come together for the launch of this season."
Looking back at his years on The Hour, we asked Stroumboulopoulos to name his three favourite interviews, using any criteria he wanted (good conversation, revealing moments, personal hero, whatever). Here's what he said:
- "I really liked the last interview we did with Howie Mandel. We always see Howie in the same context, the funny, silly guy. But he's an interesting man. He talked a lot about the OCD (obsessive-compulsive disorder) and the noise that's inside his head. He let himself be vulnerable, which a lot of men don't do on TV."
- "President Jimmy Carter was the same, he was vulnerable. There's something neat about a grown man who doesn't pretend he always got it right. Nothing is more annoying than a grown man who acts like he got it right all the time, I hate that, because we know it's not true."
- "I've interviewed Noel Gallagher a lot, so he has a comfort level with me and I have one with him. He's a musical genius, actually, but he's also just a really smart guy. You can tell, if he had a different education, he could very easily be a professor. But you come from where you come from, so what he ended up doing was being the last great rock star. Noel and Liam, they are the last great rock band (Oasis), right? Nobody can do that thing any more."
