TV shows worth watching

HOLLYWOOD -- The 2009-10 TV season is barely a month old and already there are cracks in the ol' boob tube.

With The Beautiful Life already dead, The Jay Leno Show in a ratings free-fall, and other new and returning series off to less-than-stellar starts, the medium could sure use a transfusion from one of its many doctor shows.

In a bid to salvage the season's future, we've looked to past glories to come up with the following TV mash-ups:

Extreme Makeover: House Edition: Back from his, uh, forced vacation, the brilliant Dr. House (Hugh Laurie) and his crack diagnostic team succeed in uncovering the cause of Ty Pennington's increasingly irritating personality -- an accidental nail-gun shot to the noggin.

Supernanny and The Professor: With her last nerve seriously frayed after five seasons of having to put little brats in the naughty chair, Jo Frost enlists the aid of Gilligan's Island resident brainiac (Russell Johnson) to come up with a more effective form of punishment involving coconuts.

Glee Betty: Finally making the move out of Mode, Betty Suarez (America Ferrera) relocates to Lima, Ohio, going back to school and ultimately finding her niche in the William McKinley High show choir, where nobody seems to notice the fact that she's, like, 25.

One Tree Hillbillies: Lucas and Peyton may be gone, but Brooke (Sophia Bush) and Julian (Austin Nichols) soldier on in small town North Carolina -- that is, until the kin folk convince them to load up the truck and move to Beverly Hills, that is.

Deep Space 90210: Having already depleted their social lives after just one year in California, the Wilson family and friends relocate to a brand new zip code -- situated just a hop, skip and a jump away from the Bajoran wormhole, where Nat opens his first intergalactic Peach Pit.

CPO Shark Tank: What's more daunting than being a budding entrepreneur trying to line up tight-fisted investors? How about having your invention critiqued by Mr. Warmth, Don Rickles. "Hey, Hockey Puck! Do yourself a favour and go back to your Lego."

Modern Family Feud: As if they don't have enough challenges to contend with, a trio of interrelated families (two heterosexual, one gay) find themselves competing with each other for cash prizes. Survey says: Riotous laughter ensues. Richard Dawson guest-stars.

Jonas Brothers & Sisters: The members of the Walker clan develop a noticeable spring in their step after matriarch Nora (Sally Field) takes in cuddly Nick, Joe and Kevin when their tour bus breaks down in front of her house -- and she takes on the role of their new manager.

The Jay Leno Show: Sorry, pal -- you're on your own.
