Actor Charlie Sheen and his wife are living apart as they attempt to "work things out" following their Christmas Day fight.

Sheen spent hours behind bars in Aspen, Colorado after allegedly attacking Brooke Mueller during a row at their skiing retreat.

The couple has been estranged ever since, despite attempts to reconcile.

Both Sheen and Mueller have also undergone rehab stints to tackle personal issues.

And now they're living in separate homes.

A spokesman for the actor says, "Sometimes when couples are trying to work things out, it's better if they don't reside under the same roof... (but) there are no plans for either party to end their marriage.

"(Mueller) needs to take a breather from Charlie. She is basically taking a break from the marriage."
