New 'Shore' washes up in Canada

The influence of Jersey Shore has washed up in Hogtown.

Lake Shore, a spin off of a number of different reality TV shows, will see eight Torontonians from different backgrounds and sexual orientations shack up in a house on Lake Shore Blvd.

"The show came about inspired by different shows, but became its own unique version because of what Toronto has to give us, which is the diversity," said Maryam Rahimi, creator and executive producer.

About 600 reality hopefuls showed up for auditions in Toronto recently. But was there a Snooki or the Situation in the group?

"We saw everyone from your average Joe's to the 'I think I'm the best' kind of characters," Rahimi said.

"We had a good, diverse group of characters that came out ... different countries, continents, skin tones and sexual orientations — it was really good."

The top 25 finalists are being revealed on the show's website one by one every night for the next few weeks.

Fans, along with the judges (director George Tsioutsioulas, model and former Miss Universe Samantha Tajik, Z103 DJ Tony Monaco, comedian Manolis Zontanos, former Miss Latina Canada and Miss Universe Canada Mariana Valente and Keith "Kid Rock" Correa) will vote on the final eight house mates some time next month.

While final details, such as which network the show will air on and where the cast will live, are still in negotiations, Rahimi says the upcoming series is already garnering a large fan base.

"I just found out we are number 53 in the top 100 YouTube channels viewed in Canada this month, so do people want to see it? Yes," says Rahimi who added their site garners 2,000 hits per day along with 4,000 Twitter and Facebook followers.

One the final cast members are selected, filming is expected to begin late this year or early 2011.
