The stars of U.S. reality show The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills had to be evacuated from their set on Friday after a blaze broke out at a nearby property.

The TV crew was shooting scenes at cast member Adrienne Maloof's home in California when fire ripped through a neighbouring house which formerly belonged to fellow star Lisa Vanderpump.

They were forced to shut down production and evacuate the property as firefighters desperately fought the blaze, according to TMZ.com.

Editors at the website reported the property suffered "significant" damage. It is unclear how the fire started.
