Actress Cybill Shepherd’s fiance proposed with a make-shift paper clip he had twisted into a ring.

The Moonlighting star announced her engagement to Serbian psychologist Andrei Nikolajevic in July and the 62-year-old jokes he tested her true love by popping the question in New York City on bended knee - with a piece of steel wire.

She tells U.S. news show Access Hollywood, "First he gave me a paper clip, that he had twisted into a ring. And then he got me this beautiful ring... It's an heirloom.... It was a very romantic moment. He makes me laugh. He's fantastic."

And Shepherd admits she really enjoyed the moment, because despite being married twice before, she never experienced a proper proposal, only walking down the aisle after falling pregnant to avoid being an unwed mother.

She adds, "Well, I was pregnant, so we kinda (just) got married. So I never went through that engagement thing. It's kinda fun!"

The screen veteran was previously married to nightclub entertainer David M. Ford and chiropractor Bruce Oppenheim.
