Daytime talk gets crowded

There's no way they're going to be talked out of it.

The daytime talk-show circuit gets staggeringly more crowded on Monday, Sept. 10, with three high-profile debuts.

Available in Canada on Citytv, we have Katie, the new offering from Katie Couric.

Available in Canada on Global, we have The Jeff Probst Show, the new offering from the Survivor host.

Also available in Canada on Global, we have The Ricki Lake Show, with the host making her return to the talk genre.

And it was just last week that Kelly Ripa announced her new permanent co-host for Live!, available in Canada on CTV, is ex-NFL star Michael Strahan, who replaces the retired Regis Philbin.

This all gets added to a mix that already includes Anderson Cooper and Dr. Oz and Dr. Phil and Ellen DeGeneres and Marilyn Dennis and The Talk, The View, The Chew ... phew, this was easier to keep track of when Oprah just sat on everyone.

All the newcomers say they want to be different. But they can't be substantially different, right? Talk is talk, so it'll come down to who does it best.

Ladies and gentlemen, start your yakking engines.
