Michael J. Fox excited for TV comeback

Michael J. Fox. (WENN.COM)

Michael J. Fox decided to go ahead with plans for a TV comeback after making a breakthrough with medication to control the symptoms of his Parkinson's disease.

The Back To The Future star, who first found fame on hit 1980s sitcom Family Ties, will return to the small screen in his first full-time leading role in more than 10 years in a new, currently untitled comedy written by Cougar Town scribe Sam Laybourne.

The NBC show will be partly inspired by his own personal battle with Parkinson's and Fox now reveals why he went ahead with the project.

He tells the Associated Press, "I'm really excited about that. It's a great idea and it's a great group of people I'm working with and NBC has been really supportive of the idea... and obviously shown that they're willing to take a chance on us...

"I was just feeling better and things are working for me medication-wise, and I just thought, 'Why don't I take this opportunity to do it?' I wake up every day and I feel good and if I don't go forward with something like this, it's another day wasted when I should be doing what I'm doing."

The programme is slated to premiere next year.
