A representative for actor/comedian Richard Belzer has spoken out to explain the Law and Order star's Hitler salute on a Wednesday morning TV breakfast show.
The star was promoting his TV cop drama on Fox show Good Day New York when he raised his arm to the cameras and told his hosts to "Say 'Heil' to all your colleagues at the other division".
Heil was the greeting supporters of Nazi leader Adolf Hitler used to salute him.
Belzer made no apology for his actions and comments on air and now a rep has stated he was just making a "satirical gesture toward Fox News ... whose ideology he is opposed to".
Fox News is famous for its right wing leanings.
It's not the first time Belzer has used the Nazi salute in public - he also lifted his arm at a red carpet event in June, according to TMZ.com.
