Funnyman/actor Brandon T. Jackson has won the lead role in the upcoming TV remake of Eddie Murphy's Beverly Hills Cop film series.

The 1984 comedy which spawned two sequels, is heading to the small screen with Murphy reprising his role as police officer Axel Foley in an advisory role to his son, who is the new title character.

Jackson, who began his career as a stand-up comedian, takes the lead role as Murphy's onscreen son, according to Deadline.com.

He has previously been in hit movies Tropic Thunder and Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief.
