'Boy Meets World' star not in sequel

Rider Strong. (FayesVision/WENN.COM)

Actor Rider Strong has denied reports he will be reprising his role in a sequel to hit '90s TV series Boy Meets World.

Rider, who played Shawn in the popular coming-of-age series, thinks that the new show, Girl Meets World, should have its own edge and not rely on old characters.

The show wrapped in 2000 after seven seasons but Rider has no plans to revisit his past, although he confesses it would be nice to see where his character ended up.

Ben Savage, who played Cory, and co-star Danielle Fishel, who played Topanga, have both signed up for the Disney update.

In a post on his website he writes, "I am extremely happy for Ben (Savage) and Danielle (Fishel) to be able to continue the story. At this point, I have no official involvement in Girl Meets World.

"There might be a chance to see some of the BMW cast in a guest spot, and I think it would be nice to find out where our characters have been all these years.

"But Girl Meets World will be, and I think it should be, it’s own show. It will be about Cory and Topanga, their daughter, and a new set of characters. It’s the next generation. And I, for one, can’t wait to see it evolve."
