AnnaSophia Robb plays Carrie Bradshaw in The Carrie Diaries.
The main question I have about The Carrie Diaries is, who is it for?
I don't mean that in a negative way. I actually like The Carrie Diaries, which debuts Monday, Jan. 14 on CW and Citytv.
But there's a bit of "target audience schizophrenia" at play, and the strong performance by series lead AnnaSophia Robb, who plays Carrie Bradshaw, shouldn't be lost in that muddle.
If the name Carrie Bradshaw sounds familiar, that was the name of Sarah Jessica Parker's character in Sex and the City. The Carrie Diaries is a prequel to that legendary series, existing in 1984, with a 16-year-old Carrie still living at home and going to high school in Castlebury, Connecticut.
Robb and Parker are not carbon copies of each other, but the former does bring the latter to mind in some ways.
So I ask the "who is it for?" question because as I watched the first episode of The Carrie Diaries, three potential target audiences came to mind.
