American Idol returns Wednesday for a 12th season, hoping to combat a significant ratings drop last season -- amid competition from newer shows like The Voice and The X-Factor -- with a new judging roster.
So gone are Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler. And in are -- in case you missed the press release -- Mariah Carey, Nicki Minaj and Keith Urban, joining hold-over Randy Jackson.
